NAME: Daeja Fallas
LOCATION: New York City, NY
OCCUPATION: Photographer

Hawaii born and raised turned New York native has shot for some of the biggest companies such as Nike, Billabong Australia, Samsung, Free People, Calvin Klein and Verizon as well as brands like Pandeia, and Gypsy Hawaii.

When did you discover photography?
My grandfather gave me a camera when we were driving across the country in a VW bus when I was eight. I wanted to photograph every deer we saw! We had a hundred photos of forests with maybe a tiny deer every-so-often. Ha!

Who would be your dream person to shoot?
Id love to photograph several people throughout history…Coco Chanel in her stripes, the legend of women’s surfing, Rell Sun, on her longboard in Waikiki, Hemingway on his boat and well, if she were real, the character played by Audrey Tatou in Amelie.

Who influences your work the most?
I’d say that the people around me are my biggest influences…especially my grandfather. Also the city of course, and growing up in Hawaii always draws me back to the ocean.

What do you like to do in your downtime?
I swim a few times a week, even in the winter. I just need my head under water where it is silent. I paint, cook and love walking around New York City with a camera and good friends!
